Siblings from the Basque Country, Astrid and Alexandre, co-founders of Angarde, have decided to reinvent the traditional Basque espadrille they had been wearing for years. Their goal is to transform it into a comfortable, durable, and environmentally friendly French espadrille for women.

Innovative Summer Footwear
Tired of discarding our traditional espadrilles at the end of each summer, we sought to modernize this ancestral summer shoe. Retaining the timeless and unpretentious look of flat espadrilles, we enhanced the durability by adding a sneaker-style outer sole that is both ultra-comfortable and water-resistant. We also incorporated a memory foam insole to prevent overheating. Thus, Angarde, meaning "avant-garde" in Old French, was born.
Angarde and the Pursuit of Craftsmanship
Our shoes boast an exceptionally low carbon footprint. Recognizing the fashion industry's environmental impact, we are committed to reducing emissions throughout our production chain with stringent efficiency standards. Carbonact, an organization comparing our greenhouse gas emissions to other brands, helps us identify and improve our weaknesses. Our espadrille is crafted from recycled materials and is 100% recyclable. Embracing a circular approach to minimize waste, it is conceptualized in France with customer input and handmade in a family workshop in southern Spain selected for its expertise.
Shoes Made by You, For You
To create our models, we consult our customers to envision the perfect color, ideal cut, and optimal comfort together. Placing the customer at the heart of our brand is essential to offer a model that resonates with them. Our range includes sizes from 35 to 41, ensuring every woman finds her perfect fit. Numerous colors, from blue, beige, and khaki to vibrant options like orange and pink with glitter, are available. We collaborate with artists like Dani Garreton and brands like émoi émoi for unique, creative collections, embodying the Angarde spirit with a distinct touch.
Vegan from Head to Toe
The upper of our shoes is made from innovative recycled materials—premium, stylish recycled linen and easily washable recycled cotton. The inner lining, made from recycled cotton or bamboo fiber, allows for breathability. The insole is shock-absorbent, anti-odor, and memory foam. The rubber outsole is water-resistant and durable. A thin jute braid, crafted from natural plant fibers, surrounds the outer sole, adding authenticity reminiscent of the traditional Basque espadrille. Each package includes a recycled cotton pouch for shoe storage and thin cork insoles for adjustments. When your pair reaches the end of its life, you can return it for recycling and receive a 15% discount on your next purchase.
